Gibbons Antiques is a little antique/vintage shop located on 5135 Plymouth Road (734-663-2277) in Ann Arbor, MI. I'd never been there before so Eric and I decided to stop by there one chilly morning a few weeks ago.

Gibbons Antiques is home to the Button Lady, Evelyn Gibbons.

She's been collecting and selling buttons in her antique shop for many years. It appears that she's got the market cornered on vintage buttons.

Here's my cute husband posing by this awesome vintage car (anyone know the make/model?) that sits out in front of the shop.

We enjoyed several interesting button-related anecdotes from Evelyn during our visit. If you're ever in the Dixboro area of Ann Arbor, stop in and check out Gibbons Antiques!
(please note: I was not compensated for this blog post ~ I just got a kick out of her shop!)

That is a lot of buttons!! Looks like a fun place to browse though and maybe find some buttons.
Hi Joy~ Sorry it took me so long to come by! That is a GREAT car and that store....fabulous!
J. :)
Oh my gosh. That car is the Nash Metropolitan, hope I got that right, we had one when I was about 4 years hold, the turquoise and white one and it is a dear sweet memory to me. They are so adorable!
Katie - thanks for the info! I love all the tiny cars - MGs, Siata Spring especially. It is so neat that you have a personal memory with this auto!
I am sooooooooo jealous of that button lady.. lol lol.. how cool to see!! buttons remind me of my gram.....
Yep, it's a Metropolitan, Joy, and it's adorable. They were produced in marvelous white-and-pastel color combinations: turquoise, mint green, cotton candy pink, yellow, plus red & white and black & white, both of which have faded over the years to yummy shades reminiscent of well-loved metal beach buckets.
I love all the buttons. When I was going through my mother and grandmother's belongings recently, I discovered that my brother had given ALL of my mom's sewing stuff to his 18 year old daughter, including the old trims and buttons. I sure hope she didn't throw anything out, because I know there was lots of Depression Era goodies in the mix.
Hugs,
Victoria
Oh...I would be in that button shop all the time. I wish it was close! I love putting vintage buttons on my pin cushions. I use to live in Michigan. Now I wish I still did! LOL hugs, Ellen

I enjoyed your photo of your grandmother as a little girl. How precious are those photos. Small glimpses of eras gone by.
